Secondary School Camps

Girls’ Camp

I would like to thank all of the teachers who organised a wonderful experience for the students. It was a great experience. The camp was fun, exciting, adventurous and active. Each day we had new activities of different varieties, which was really good. Some activities were canoeing, high ropes, bike riding, wildlife animal incursion, hut building and team initiative activities. There were also really kind staff members at the campsite who were all really friendly and kind and guided us with all the activities. My favourite memory from camp is when we had the wild life animal incursion and when we lit up a campfire at night. Overall, I think it was a great experience and I look forward to another exciting and adventurous trip in the coming years. Nihal Kirazli 7A

This was my first time ever going to camp. My parents have always been protective of me but they decided it would be excellent for me to go to camp to look after myself. I was extremely excited but anxious because I have never been somewhere without my mum before. Once we got to the campsite all of those anxious feelings faded away and new, exciting ones came flooding in. One of the workers explained the activities we would be completing and I couldn’t wait to begin.

One of my favourite activities was canoeing. Trust me, I was petrified at first (and couldn’t stop yelling at people for rocking my boat) however, it turned out to be a lot of fun. We had to complete a series of challenges, and I was never first at any of them. Although, what really made it fun was that all of us trusted each other and shared a load of laughs for splashing a person with water.

To sum up, camp was fun and memorable and a time that I will often look back on. Leila Gabeljic 7A

The camp was amazing. It was my first camp ever. Lots of enjoyable activities and party games were played throughout the night. During the day we went canoeing, bike riding and tackling our fear of heights with vertical ropes by jumping the leap of faith or going through the sky bridge. I was introduced to archery and we improved our teamwork skills with the hut building and team initiatives. Even though it rained sometimes, I had an amazing time and I would go again. Taaha Saqib 7A

The camp was fun. I had a lot of memorable moments with my friends that I will cherish forever. The most memorable moment was watching the sun setting over the ocean with my friends and feeding the animals at the campsite. The campsite was really nice. My favourite activity was the team initiatives where you have to trust your team members and complete the course together. I also got to know my teachers better. The staff at the campsite were really friendly and kind. I really thank my teachers for organising this wonderful camp experience. Tuana Golbasi 8A.

All secondary students were given the amazing opportunity to go camping. The secondary girls were taken to Grantville Lodge for three days and two nights. During our stay we experienced many new things, were given the opportunity to learn more and gained a lot of fun memories.

On the first day, we completed a team initiative activity, which brought about loads of laughter between our new-found friends. We then were given the opportunity to build our own waterproof huts, which was tough at the start but eventually we were able to cooperate and build an amazing hut.

The second day was filled with so much more fun and exciting activities including, mountain biking, archery, canoeing, and high ropes. I enjoyed the experience, seeing the beautiful Victorian countryside, riding around the hills, hitting a close bullseye, steering a canoe and walking the high ropes.

At the end of the second day, we had a big competition against the three other groups. In the competition, we played many games such as who can eat a cookie off your face the fastest without your hands, who can shake out the most table tennis balls from a tissue box stuck to their back, who can stack the most cups the fastest and a grand finale of musical chairs against the teachers. In the end, Miss Silva’s group came first and our group second. We then ended the day with a campfire.

On our last day, we were set out on the amazing race, competing against each group, completing a series of activities and coming up with a team chant and dance.

During the whole excursion, I was able to make so many new friends, and make so many hilarious memories such as getting wrapped up in toilet paper, having to paddle our canoe with our hands and falling off the high ropes.

My friends and I were extremely happy that we were able to go on this wonderful trip, as it is one of our friends’ last year at this campus and we were so glad we were given this opportunity to experience it all together. Shahani Asmi Kiyabdeen 9A

Boys’ Camp

This year the boys went to the Halls Gap Norval campsite. It was a very exciting day as we loaded our bags into the two huge busses. It took us long, but we arrived at the campsite at 12 o’clock. Our activity on the first day was abseiling. This involved climbing up a high cliff, getting harnessed up, then walking down the cliff horizontally. For the next two days, we did activities like hiking up a mountain, initiatives course, and high ropes. The camp was a really good experience and hopefully we can go again. Abdul Ahad Salfie 8B

This year’s camp ended up at the well-known nature sanctuary (The Grampians). It was a memorable experience. We stepped out of our inner circle and tried something new. The camp site was clean and well looked after and the air was fresh due to all the trees nearby. The food there was well catered giving us a nice time to relax. Some of the experiences we went through were ping pong, high ropes, abseiling, incentives and hiking. The workers were friendly and offered help whenever needed and without the we as a school would not have survived at this camp. All in all, it was a great experience and a good place for a family to enjoy themselves. Julien Baulch 7B

During the secondary boys’ camp, all students enjoyed and showed great gratitude of the effort put in by teachers who organised the school camp. During the camp, students were abseiling, hiking and took on a high rope adventure. Students also exercised thinking skills, communication skills and teamwork skills. These skills are practiced at camp, such as the high rope adventure, where skills such as communication between the climber and the person supporting the climber from below, loosening and tightening the rope. Trusting one another is also an essential, and during the camp, people gradually trusted one another from time to time. All students who attended the camp heartily appreciate their teachers for organising this phenomenal event. Johar Malik 8B

My experience of the camp in Halls Gap, Grampians was fun! We did many activities there including rock climbing, hiking to a waterfall with pure water, Indoor activities and hanging ropes. We also did many night time indoor activities including toasting marshmallows and interacting with native animals including a snake. I think this camp was fun not just because of the activities, but because we also got to hang out with our friends, which boosted many aspects for me including stamina, courage and local knowledge. I recommend that everyone should go to camp next time. Saad Zia 8B

We boys were divided into our groups and cabins and soon the activities started. My group’s first activity was abseiling. There we climbed down the rocks and learnt about safety of the gear. The next activity was Initiatives where the group learnt about teamwork and the importance of working together. On the second last day we participated in hiking and had lots of fun chatting and walking. The last day was high ropes. People overcame their fear of heights and teamwork was again important. Soon it was time to depart the camp. Overall, the camp was a great learning experience for us students and for teaching us important skills. Afthab Nazly Mohamed 8B

The camp was very fun and challenging. I thank Sirius College for making this experience possible. I had a great time. My favourite part of camp was tree surfing (high ropes). I gained a lot of confidence and experience dealing with heights and now I feel more comfortable with heights. The teachers were very helpful and kind. I thank them also for taking care of us. The food was delicious especially the meat. Hiking was tiring but worth it because we saw the beautiful view from the top. I am sure many boys enjoyed it. I hope we go there again one day because it was one of my favourites. Riyaan Ali Mohammed 7B
